Kira McDaniel is a cellist from Seattle, WA. She is soon to graduate from Western Washington University with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance. She has studied the cello and private teaching methods with Page Smith in Seattle, and currently with Dr. John Friesen at WWU. She has also worked with internationally-known cellists Joshua Roman, Johannes Moser, Steven Thomas and Jussi Makkonen, as well as the Friction Quartet. She has been teaching privately for 4+ years, with experience teaching from elementary students to adults.
She has been playing the cello for over 10 years, and has played in many pit orchestras in Bellingham, Everett, Mount Vernon, and Seattle. She regularly performs with the Western Washington University Symphony Orchestra and the Composers of Western Scholarship Quartet at WWU. She has received many scholarships throughout high school and her undergraduate degree for her playing and dedication to music.
Music is her passion, and teaching is a way for her to reach out into others lives to share the magic of music. As every individual understands and retains information differently, she believes a private teacher must be able to tailor their teaching style to the needs of the student. She enjoys getting to know each student, and learning the best way to share the information she has to offer. She specializes in proper, healthy techniques that uses as minimal amount of tension and muscle usage as possible, keeping the body able to play music for a lifetime.
She offers 30 and 60 minute lessons at Allegro Strings. One lesson a week is highly recommended, and the length of lesson depends on the age, playing level and experience of the student. 30 minute lessons are recommended for beginning musicians, and 60 minutes for novice-advanced players with 1-2+ years of experience.
The first lesson is FREE!

"I seriously love taking cello lessons with Kira! I'm a 30 year old beginner starting from scratch and she has been nothing but professional, challenging, passionate & fun. I will definitely continue to take lessons with her!" - Rita T.
"My experience with Kira as an instructor was excellent. She was quick to provide tips and corrections. Kira is truly encouraging and engaging in her teaching. I hope you enjoy your lessons as much as I did." - Robert J.
"Kira is an amazing cellist and teacher. In my short time being coached by her through Western Washington University she helped me improve greatly by giving tips and good ways of how to execute them. I would sign up for lessons with her in a heartbeat." - Amy E.
"Kira was my son's cello teacher while he was in the 6th grade. She was consistently on time and had a wonderful attitude towards teaching. My son always looked forward to his lessons with Kira, she always came prepared for answering his questions and always had new material to teach him. Kira gave a review at the end of each lesson; she would give him praise yet was not opposed to letting him know what he needed to work on. She was knowledgeable about how to keep him on task and motivated. She always touched base with me at the end of the lesson as to what had been taught and practiced and let me know how my son was doing. Kira has a true passion for music and a real love of the cello that exudes through her. Her happy disposition and big smile when speaking about music will have you excited as well!" - Torrie B.
